Stevia and Ice Cream

Stevia rebaudiana (Bertoni) is a sweet herb native to Paraguay and Brazil. Studies have shown that stevia has been used since ancient times for various purposes throughout the world: the Guarani tribes of Paraguay and Brazil used stevia as a sweetener in yerba mate and medicinal teas for treating heartburn and other ailments.

In Kenya Stevia is being grown in the following  counties  Kericho, Nandi, Nakuru, Laikipia, Uasin Gishu, Narok, Meru and Bungoma. Stevia is preferred since it is 200 times sweeter than sugar and has no calories or carbohydrates.

One of Fior Di Latte objectives is to make ice-cream available to everyone. Therefore, in making our Sorbet we use Stevia instead of Sugar as it’s a natural sweetener and good for those who have diabetes and ensuring they don’t miss out on our good healthy treats !
